The EF Global Finance ProgramSomething Different

The EF Global Finance Program

If you are looking to do something truly interesting with your career, this could be for you. Our 18-month program will place you into three finance roles in different geographies and business units, with each assignment lasting approximately six months. You could be preparing a project presentation (and skiing) in Switzerland, preparing final accounts (and shopping) in Hong Kong, or pouring over spreadsheets (and watching the latest NHL game) in Toronto.

The work will be hands-on, and you will operate within a challenging business environment and experience a steep learning curve. You will assume responsibility immediately and develop a wide range of financial skills that will prepare you for a leadership position within our organization.

Your network will be wide, as the program will provide you with the opportunity to attend international meetings and trainings as well as interact with senior executives. You will also be assigned a personal mentor on a senior level who will support you throughout the program.

A wealth of opportunities

After completing the EF Global Finance Program, you will be ready to take on a challenging full-time position. This could mean a management role within financial accounting or business controlling somewhere in EF’s global network. There are no predetermined career paths and each person sets their own limits; your next role will be a logical extension of what makes the most sense for your situation. In the long term, your career may lead you to a CFO position or another senior position within EF.

Tobias Sjöberg

Finance Manager
University of Lund, MSc in Finance and Accounting

What does Tobias love about his job? The challenge and the fast pace. He says, “At EF, there are endless possibilities for a fast-moving career. During my years with EF, I’ve lived in Switzerland and the U.S. and had five different and equally exciting jobs—not many other companies can offer such range.” After graduating from university in 2006, Tobias joined EF in Boston, where he worked for Hult International Business School. From there, he transferred to Lucerne, where he got involved in the group consolidation process and eventually, EF’s insurance operations. Today, Tobias is the Finance Manager of several EF companies in different countries and is also involved in overseeing and managing company structure.

Anna Wänseth

Finance Manager
Stockholm School of Economics, MSc in Finance

Since graduating in 2004, Anna has already experienced more parts of the world than most people ever do in their careers. She knows how to order the best dim sum in Hong Kong from her time as Assistant Finance Manager, and how to navigate through the historic capitals of Central and Eastern Europe from her time as Finance Manager in Berlin. Anna has also worked in Boston, and today, she is based at EF’s global head office in Lucerne. In her current role, she is at the center of EF’s financial network, interacting with colleagues from around the world.

Magnus Karlsson

Group Accounting Manager
Stockholm School of Economics, MSc in Accounting and Financial Management

Magnus joined EF in 2006 after two years of working in the automotive industry. His first position was in regional finance for EF Latin America, and the job took him to Mexico, Brazil, Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Argentina, and Chile. A year later, he took on a new challenge as Finance Manager for EF France, Belgium, Luxembourg, and Greece. His next step was to go to Stockholm, where he now works as Group Accounting Manager. “Working with finance at EF allows you to get very involved in the operational aspects of the business in addition to focusing on accounting and legal issues. I like that,” Magnus explains. “Also, you are constantly challenged to learn new things. For example, I learned French to help me oversee the finance functions of our French speaking markets.”

Anna Ström

Group Accountant
University of Lund, MSc in Technology Management

Anna says, “Ever since my first day at EF, I have been given a lot of responsibility and I have felt that people ask for and listen to my opinions and ideas.” As a new graduate in 2008, Anna was offered the role of Assistant Group Treasurer in Lucerne. She was later promoted to Group Accountant in Stockholm and is currently based in Zurich, where she works with business controlling. “One of the best things about EF is that the international environment creates a dynamic workplace where not one day is the same,” Anna explains. “Also, working at EF means spending a lot of time with fun and extraordinary people.”

Migle Paulauskaite

Global Finance Participant
Stockholm School of Economics, BSc in Management

With the experience of having lived in two countries, as well as speaking four different languages, it was a natural fit for Migle to apply for the EF Global Finance Program. “What appealed most to me about the program was the international exposure and the opportunity to see how EF’s product divisions are being managed in different countries,” Migle explains. Her first position took her to Hong Kong, where she is learning the daily procedures of the accounting team as well as assisting during the year-end closing. Migle’s next position will bring her to Switzerland, where she will join EF’s headquarters for another exciting six months.

Claes Aldén

Global Finance Participant
Stockholm School of Economics, MSc in Finance

Just after finishing his last course at the Stockholm School of Economics, Claes flew to EF Toronto, where he immediately was involved in the daily accounting and other projects. “At an early stage, I felt that I had a direct impact on the organization,” Claes explains. “I traveled to Boston to present to the division’s CFO and 15 financial managers.” Claes also appreciates his mentor who is on a CFO level. “The mentor program gives me exposure to senior management as well as guidance from someone who has great knowledge about the business.” Claes is currently working on fiscal closing at the EF headquarters in Lucerne, where he will soon enjoy the start of the ski season. His third challenging placement will take him to Hong Kong.
